Obongi, Uganda – The Obongi Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, flanked by ARDC Umuhoza Habiba Furaha and the new Deputy DISO Obongi, Kamugisha Adam, called off the ground-breaking ceremony for the renovation of a block of three classrooms at Chinyi Primary School in Itula Sub-County.
This action was taken after the contractor, CANASTA Enterprise Ltd, allegedly failed to provide the Bills of Quantities (BOQ) for the project. The RDC’s office stated that the BOQ is essential for monitoring and ensuring proper implementation of the project on the ground.
The three-classroom block is scheduled to be renovated at a cost of UGX 36,526,000, with funds released in the financial year 2023/2024.
Members of the School Management Committee, the headteacher, and teachers at Chinyi Primary School recently protested against the lack of a BOQ for the renovation.
In a related development, RDC Hashaka Mpimbaza has warned that any government project under construction without a clear BOQ will be investigated. He called upon the Office of the IGG and the State House Anti-Corruption Unit to take a keen interest in such projects in Obongi district.
The LCV Chairman, Buga Chemis, did not answer our repeated phone calls. He seemed to have been engaged in the NRM party primaries.
