Agather Atuhaire Detained in Tanzania Amid Criticism of Western Influence

The Ankole Times

The case of Agather Atuhaire clearly reveals the deep contradictions within Western imperialism. While the empire claims to support human rights and democracy, in reality, it simultaneously funds and manipulates both authoritarian regimes and their so-called “opposition” groups.

This strategy keeps true revolutionary change out of reach, maintaining imperial control under the guise of progress.

Atuhaire—an activist awarded by the EU and the U.S. State Department, and reportedly funded with $200,000 from USAID—is a clear example of this contradiction. She is promoted as a human rights defender, yet operates within an imperial framework designed to manage dissent and sustain neo-colonial domination.

She is part of a system that props up leaders like Museveni, Suluhu, Ruto, and Kagame—regional agents of empire who suppress genuine popular struggle.

This dual support for both ruling regimes and their opposition ensures that no real alternative can emerge. Instead, African peoples are caught in a trap where every political force is tied to imperial interests, whether openly or covertly.

Her detention in Tanzania, alongside Boniface Mwangi—another activist linked to Western institutions—shows how even imperial-backed governments will repress their own controlled opposition when their grip on power is threatened.

The contradiction is stark: the empire claims to support liberation but funds and controls all sides to maintain dominance. True emancipation demands breaking from this imperial yoke and building independent, revolutionary movements rooted in the masses—free from foreign manipulation.
