No Branch, No Problem: BOA Reinvents Banking with App-Only Account Opening

Kampala, Uganda – Bank of Africa (BOA) has unveiled its latest digital innovation, the “Appsolutely Eassy” campaign, aimed at transforming how Ugandans access banking services.

At the heart of this initiative is the BOA Wallet App, a new mobile platform that enables users to open bank accounts remotely and manage their finances without stepping into a branch.

Targeting the country’s growing base of smartphone users, particularly youth, first-time banking customers, and existing account holders, the campaign leverages Uganda’s mobile-first digital landscape.

A recent report from GSMA Mobile Economy Sub-Saharan Africa projects that smartphone usage in Uganda will exceed 80% by the end of 2025, driven by broader internet access and affordable devices.

“With the BOA Wallet, we are removing traditional barriers to financial inclusion,” said Arthur Isiko, Managing Director of Bank of Africa-Uganda. “Now, anyone can open a fully functional bank account in minutes, right from their mobile phone—no paperwork, no queues, no delays.”

The BOA Wallet goes beyond just account opening. It includes a full suite of digital banking services designed to simplify money management. Key features include:

  • BOA Pay: A secure, easy-to-use digital payment system for purchases at partner merchants and service providers.

  • Bill Payments: An integrated tool for settling utilities, airtime, and other essential services.

  • Interest-Earning Savings: A convenient in-app savings feature that allows customers to earn competitive interest rates on their deposits.

Security and ease of use are central to the app’s design, offering real-time transaction alerts, an intuitive user interface, and 24/7 access to funds.

Bank of Africa’s push into digital banking comes at a time when traditional banking channels face challenges of accessibility and convenience.

By launching the BOA Wallet, the bank aims to drive deposits, boost financial inclusion, and provide a modern banking experience that aligns with today’s tech-savvy consumers.

Through its “Appsolutely Easy” campaign, BOA is reaffirming its commitment to making banking more accessible, flexible, and relevant for all Ugandans.
