The former Kisoro District National Unity Platform (NUP) chairperson, Sibomana Laban, is facing serious allegations of staging his own abduction in an attempt to solicit compensation and medical allowances from the party’s top leadership.
This development follows a press conference held yesterday at Bamboo Gardens in Kisoro Municipality, where Sibomana claimed he was abducted on May 5 by unidentified security personnel from his residence in Kamonyi Ward, Northern Division, Kisoro Municipality. He stated that he later regained consciousness in Mbarara.
Sibomana alleged that during the ordeal, he was assaulted, tortured, and left severely injured. He also claimed the security personnel confiscated UGX 3.6 million and important party documents from him.
He expressed frustration with the NUP leadership for allegedly failing to cover his medical expenses and demanded reimbursement for the stolen funds.
However, in a phone interview, NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya revealed that Sibomana had recently visited the party’s headquarters in Kamwokya. According to Rubongoya, Sibomana was assisted with a head scan, which showed no serious injuries, and was given UGX 230,000 as a transport refund.
Rubongoya expressed disappointment in Sibomana’s conduct, stating that there is no credible evidence to support his claims of abduction or the loss of UGX 3.6 million.
He emphasized that the party prioritizes the well-being of its members and encouraged Sibomana to return to the headquarters for further medical assessment if needed.
