Hon. Kakuru Phillip Condemns Sectarianism, Rallies Support for Museveni and NRM Unity

The Ankole Times

Hon. Kakuru Phillip, an aspirant for the position of National Chairman of the NRM Entrepreneurs League, has strongly condemned the rise of sectarian politics in the Greater Elgon Region, calling it a threat to party unity and national cohesion.

While mobilizing support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s 2026 candidacy and his own bid for NRM Entrepreneurs League Chairperson (2025–2030), Hon. Kakuru toured the Bugisu and Sebei sub-regions, holding strategic meetings with party delegates in Mbale City.

During one of the meetings, delegates unanimously pledged their support for both President Museveni and Hon. Kakuru, commending his consistent ideological clarity and commitment to the NRM principles.

However, the meeting took a contentious turn when six delegates from Mbale City argued in favor of supporting another aspirant, Tanna, on the basis that he hails from the Eastern region. This sparked a heated debate, with many delegates accusing Tanna of promoting divisive, regional-based politics aimed at undermining support for the President and destabilizing the party’s cohesion in Eastern Uganda.

Reacting firmly to the incident, Hon. Kakuru denounced the use of sectarianism by what he described as “political opportunists seeking cheap popularity.” He accused the six delegates of being sponsored to promote division within the party and publicly called them to order.

In an assertive move to maintain discipline and party integrity, Hon. Kakuru ordered the six delegates to leave the meeting, stating that the NRM has no room for division based on tribe, region, or sectarian agendas.

“We must remain focused on unity, ideology, and service to our people—not on narrow tribal interests,” Kakuru stated.

He reaffirmed his commitment to ideologically driven leadership, emphasizing that his campaign is based on economic empowerment, party loyalty, and national unity.

Hon. Kakuru remains a leading contender and, according to his supporters, the most ideologically consistent candidate for NRM National Chairman of the Entrepreneurs League.
