Truck Carrying Political Supporters Overturns in Obongi, 17 Injured

OBONGI, Uganda – Seventeen people sustained injuries in a truck accident in Obongi District on June 23, 2026, while traveling to attend a nomination exercise for the district vice chairman, Okuonzi Drale.

The accident occurred at Foligo, near Obongi Town Council, when a Fuso truck, registration number UBR 414M, carrying the supporters overturned. Five people were seriously injured, and 12 others sustained fractures and minor injuries.




Two of the most seriously injured victims, including a Senior Two student, were referred to Yumbe Regional Referral Hospital for advanced treatment. The remaining 12 were admitted to Obongi Health Centre IV for medical attention.




The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Obongi, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, and the Assistant RDC, Umuhoza Habiba Furaha, visited the accident scene and later checked on the victims.




They commended the medical team at Obongi Health Centre IV, led by Dr. Owole, for their prompt and dedicated response in managing the casualties.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
