In a surprise move that has sent shockwaves through the local political landscape, Fearless Wodacholi Kilama, a prominent member of the Democratic Party (DP) and also the party’s chairperson, has thrown his weight behind Eng Raymond Luwita, the NRM party’s flag bearer for the Aruu County MP seat.
The endorsement came during a consultation meeting held in Awere and Lunyiri sub counties on Thursday, June 26, 2025, a day after Luwita successfully completed his nomination at the NRM party head office in Kampala.
Kilama, a vocal critic of ineffective leadership, cited Luwita’s vision and commitment to development as key reasons for his endorsement. “The 2026 elections are about leadership, not party affiliation,” Kilama said. “We need leaders who can deliver, and Eng Raymond Luwita is the best person for the job.”

Luwita, who was present at the meeting expressed gratitude for Kilama’s endorsement and pledged to work tirelessly to ensure the development of Aruu County. He called for peaceful campaigns and elections, free from intimidation of voters, and criticized some political leaders for failing to follow up on government programs.
Kilama also lambasted incumbent leaders in the district for failing to build peace and instead using courts to fight locals. “Power belongs to the people, not politicians,” he emphasized. “We need leaders who will serve the people, not themselves.”
The endorsement is seen as a significant boost to Luwita’s campaign, and could potentially sway undecided voters in Aruu County. As the electoral process heats up, all eyes will be on Luwita and his opponents as they vie for the coveted MP seat.
