KISORO, Uganda – The funeral of Amos Dusabe, a 35-year-old teacher at Kanaba Secondary School, was marked by an outpouring of grief, tears, and accusations, as his sudden death ignited controversy and deep concern in the Bufumbira East Constituency, Kisoro District.

Amos, a resident of Karuzogero Cell in Chahafi Town Council, tragically took his own life on Sunday, June 29, 2025, by hanging himself in his bedroom. This occurred shortly after he had attended church prayers at Nyabune Church of Uganda.

His wife, Asiimwe Flavia, revealed that the days leading up to Amos’s death were fraught with troubling interactions, which she believes are directly linked to escalating local political tensions.

Asiimwe disclosed that on Saturday, June 28, 2025, Amos received a phone call from a group of five individuals who are supporters of an aspiring candidate in Bufumbira East. The following Sunday morning, the same group contacted Amos again. Asiimwe expressed her conviction that the relentless political wrangles and immense pressure may have overwhelmed her husband, ultimately leading to his tragic decision.

Hardad Nkunzimana, the Mayor of Chahafi Town Council, who represented the area’s Member of Parliament, Dr. James Nsababuturo, confirmed that efforts are actively underway to ensure justice for Amos.

The Kisoro District Speaker, representing Bufumbira East aspirant Roland Nkrumah, also condemned the pervasive political conflicts in the area. He issued a strong call for a fundamental shift towards more peaceful and amicable political engagement within the community.

Students of Kanaba Secondary School expressed profound condolences, acknowledging Amos’s significant role as a mentor and community leader who was deeply invested in their future. His loss has been keenly felt across the school and wider community.

The funeral service was led by the Archbishop of Kabami Archdiocese, Rev. Gad Nzabonimpa. During the service, the archbishop urged the community to approach political campaigns with utmost seriousness and respect, emphasizing the need for conduct that preserves life and harmony.
