Kotido, Uganda – Senior police and army officials used the Kotido police promotion ceremony to deliver powerful messages of humility, leadership, and public trust to newly promoted officers.

Regional Police Commander SSP Denis Ochama praised the officers for serving in challenging environments, including operations against cattle rustlers and patrols with limited resources.

“Many of you have patrolled with limited resources, faced cattle rustlers, and served without hesitation. You’ve earned your stripes,” he said.

Deputy RPC SSP Soma Nelson gave a personal reflection:
“I stood where you stand now. Let your promotion not make you louder, but wiser. Our calling is leadership through example.”

ASTU Sector Commander Nelson Muyonjo reiterated warnings about alcoholism and called on the officers to uphold the Uganda Police Force’s core values.

District Police Commander SP Ssekalema reminded the officers that promotions come with increased scrutiny:
“Your first act as promoted officers must be humility. Because now, more than ever, the eyes of the public are on you.”

Also present was 43rd Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Kafureeka, representing the UPDF. He congratulated the officers and reaffirmed the army’s commitment to working alongside the police.

“These ranks must translate to action that strengthens the rule of law,” he said.

The event concluded with a community celebration, including a cake-cutting ceremony and light refreshments, reflecting both institutional pride and community support.
