Rubanda District — Police in Rubanda District have launched investigations following an attack on Hon. Henry Musasizi, the Minister of State for Finance, during a campaign rally on the evening of July 3.

The incident occurred around 6:40 p.m. at Hakashanje Playground in Nyakahanga Cell, Bushura Parish, Hamuhambo Town Council. As the minister was leaving the venue, a group of unidentified individuals reportedly hurled stones at his convoy, shattering several vehicle windows.

Earlier in the day, tensions were already evident when campaign posters of Musasizi were torn and vandalized by unknown persons.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed that a case of malicious damage to property has been registered and that investigations are underway.

“We have launched inquiries into the matter, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend nine suspects linked to the incident,” Maate said. “Once arrested, they will be charged accordingly.”

Maate further urged the public to maintain peace during the political season, warning that political differences should never lead to violence or destruction of property.

“Anyone found inciting or engaging in such acts will face the full force of the law,” he emphasized.

The police are appealing to members of the public to come forward with any information that may aid in the arrest of those responsible.
