Prof. Badru Kateregga Regains Access to Buziga Residence Following Court Ruling

Kampala, Uganda – Kampala University founder and businessman, Prof. Badru Dungu Kateregga, has regained access to his Buziga residence after a long-running legal dispute with his estranged wife, Jolly Shubaiha Irankunda.

The ruling, delivered by Grade One Magistrate Arinaitwe Elisha at Makindye Court, dismissed Irankunda’s application seeking to bar Prof. Kateregga from entering the home. Magistrate Elisha emphasized that matrimonial property rights can only be determined through divorce, judicial separation, or nullification of marriage. Therefore, there was no legal basis to prevent Prof. Kateregga from accessing his own property, which he built with his personal funds.

The dispute between the couple, who have been married for over a decade and have three children together, has been widely publicized. Prof. Kateregga had accused his wife of physical abuse and of forcefully locking him out of the residence. He claimed that since September 2024, he had been denied access to his home, allegedly with interference from police and private security personnel. Irankunda, on her part, denied the allegations and maintained that all property remained secure.

This court decision provides Prof. Kateregga temporary relief, allowing him to return to his residence. However, broader legal issues surrounding their marital and property disputes remain unresolved, with further proceedings expected in the coming months.
