At least 30 people were injured in a road accident on Thursday, September 4, 2025, when a tipper lorry carrying mourners overturned along the Kabale–Mbarara highway.

The crash occurred at Omukenyanya in Rwentobo as the mourners were traveling from Kandago in Rukiga District to Rubaare Town Council to attend a burial ceremony.

Eyewitnesses reported that the lorry, whose registration number was not immediately identified, was carrying approximately 55 passengers when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn. The injured were quickly rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital and Karuhanga Doctors Referral Hospital. Several are said to be in critical condition.

The mourners had been en route to bury Joseph Kyomuhangi, who had died just days earlier—on Monday, 1st September in a separate road accident along the same highway in Kabalaga Village. That earlier incident had also claimed the life of a one-year-and-two-month-old baby.

Felix Turinawe, whose mother was among those injured, described the crash as a double tragedy for the affected families.

“We never expected something like this to happen, especially while mourning another tragedy,” he said.
