Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Duly Nominated to Retain Lira City Seat, Pledges Transformative Leadership

LIRA CITY, Uganda – Thursday, 23rd October 2025 – In a significant step towards the upcoming elections, the esteemed Health Minister, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, was duly nominated by the Electoral Commission on Thursday to contest and retain her position as the Woman Member of Parliament for Lira City.

The nomination sets the stage for what Dr. Aceng promises will be a renewed term focused on accelerated and transformative development for her constituents.

Speaking confidently shortly after the nomination process, Dr. Aceng outlined a comprehensive vision for her next term. She declared that her primary targets will be squarely on boosting household income and driving economic empowerment as key strategies in the fight against poverty. She also emphasized her continued commitment to improving sanitation across the city.

Acknowledging the collective effort that brought her this far, Dr. Aceng commended party members for their “collaboration and unity.” Displaying a resolute spirit, she addressed the competitive political field directly, stating she is “not intimidated by any other contenders” and is fully “ready to tussle it out with them” in the pursuit of serving the people of Lira City.

In a show of allegiance to the national leadership, Dr. Aceng encouraged voters to support President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, citing that “more achievements have been registered under the NRM government.” She urged citizens to allow the President to continue steering the country’s development, a mission she vows to complement by “continuing lobbying for development” from the central government.

Dr. Aceng was not alone in receiving her nomination papers on this pivotal day. The electoral field for Lira City’s constituencies was also set, with nominees including Eddy Morish Ogweng for Lira City West and Daniel Omodi Alyela for Lira City East.

Mr. Ogweng announced his intent to “kickstart a new journey of development,” focusing on health sector improvement, economic empowerment, and advocating for the establishment of factories to tackle youth joblessness. He emphatically stated, “enough is enough for Lira City residents to suffer in terms of development.”

Similarly, Mr. Alyela described his nomination as “the beginning of a journey of development,” pledging to defend the rights of the people, ensure effective service delivery, and fast-track development projects for Lira City East.

With the stage now set, the people of Lira City await a vigorous campaign period, with Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng positioning herself as a proven leader ready to build on her record and deliver a more prosperous future for all.
