For more than seven years, Samuel, a 39-year-old watchman from Entebbe, worked long night shifts with one goal: to build a better future for himself and the woman he loved.

From the moment they met, he believed she was the one he would spend his life with. They dreamed together, planned their future, and even talked about buying land and starting a family.

When she got the opportunity to work abroad, Samuel didn’t hesitate. He sold his motorbike, took a loan, and used all his savings to cover her visa, flight, medical exams, and other expenses. Proudly, he told everyone that she was going abroad to create a brighter life for both of them.

In the first months after she left, everything seemed fine. She thanked him for supporting her, promised to return and marry him after completing her contract, and even spoke about building a small rental house together.

Samuel felt proud of his sacrifices and hopeful about their future. But gradually, things changed. Her calls became fewer, messages shorter, and sometimes she ignored him for days. Samuel reassured himself, thinking she was simply busy adjusting to her new life.

By the time her two-year contract ended, Samuel had paid off part of the loan and eagerly went to the airport to welcome her home, flowers in hand and dressed in his best clothes. But she never appeared. After hours of waiting, he learned from a friend that she had already returned and didn’t want to see him.

Days later, the heartbreaking truth emerged—she had come back with another man she met abroad and married him within weeks. Samuel described the feeling as a stabbing pain to his chest. The hurt was unbearable, especially when people mocked him for giving everything to someone who left without looking back.

His sorrow didn’t end there. After she left, his life seemed to collapse. He lost focus at work, his finances took a hit, and he felt an unshakable heaviness around him. Friends noticed the change—he couldn’t sleep, stopped eating properly, and lived with constant anger and shame.
