The Ankole Times

Two people were killed in a suspected attack on a heavy commercial vehicle in Katholhu, Nyakiyumbu subcounty, along the Bwera-Kasese highway in Kasese district, Uganda.

Lt. Mate Magwara, the Kasese Deputy Resident Commissioner, confirmed the attack, calling it a robbery and saying that security forces were hunting for the perpetrators. He did not give any further details about the incident, but said that the deceased were likely the occupants of the truck, which was shot at and then burned beyond recognition.

Other reports indicate that a third person, suspected to have been the third occupant of the truck, was critically injured and is being treated at Bwera general hospital.

Mr. Peter Sunday Kakule, the Local council three chairperson for Nyakiyumbu subcounty, called for vigilance among the local community members, saying that suspects may be hiding in the area now that security patrols along the Uganda-DR Congo border have been increased.

Details on the matter will be provided in subsequent updates.
