ALEBTONG, UGANDA – The Alebtong Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Okiswa Geoffrey, has publicly commended Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, Government Chief Whip (GCW) and Member of Parliament for Ajuri County, for successfully lobbying the delivery of 680 iron sheets to key educational and religious institutions in the district.
The handover ceremony, held at the Alebtong District Headquarters on Saturday, marked a significant milestone in infrastructure development for the region. The iron sheets were allocated through the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) following persistent advocacy by MP Obua, who doubles as the NRM National Vice Chairperson for the Northern Region.
In his remarks, RDC Okiswa Geoffrey expressed deep gratitude to both the NRM government and Hon.Denis Obua for the timely intervention.
“Today, I congratulate Hon. GCW Denis Hamson Obua for the handover of 680 iron sheets allocated by the Office of the Prime Minister to Yahweh Pentecostal Church, Alanyi Primary School, Omoro SS, and Amugu SS,” said Okiswa.
He emphasized that such achievements reflect the importance of effective representation and political will in driving grassroots development. “Lobbying is not child’s play—it is a skill. And Hon. Obua has proven his mastery,” he stated, urging beneficiaries to safeguard the materials and use them prudently for long-term socio-economic transformation.
The distribution is part of a broader support program targeting education and community welfare in Northern Uganda. To date, Obua has facilitated the delivery of 1,800 iron sheets across Alebtong District, marking the fourth such distribution.
Beneficiaries of this latest consignment:
- Yahwe Pentecostal Church: 230 iron sheets (largest recipient),
- Omoro Senior Secondary School: 150 iron sheets,
- Amugu Secondary School: 150 iron sheets,
- Alanyi Primary School: 100 iron sheets.
- Franko Olaboro, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Alebtong District, confirmed that the OPM, through its
- Permanent Secretary, approved the release of the sheets following Obua’s successful lobbying.
“I am thrilled to witness this tangible support coming to our schools and places of worship,” Olaboro said. “This is development in action—made possible by a responsive leader.”
During the event, MP Obua reiterated his commitment to uplifting infrastructure in Ajuri County. He praised the resilience of teachers and school administrators, especially at Omoro SS and Amugu SS, who continue to push for academic excellence despite infrastructural challenges.
“This is not just about iron sheets,” Obua remarked. “It’s about creating conducive learning environments and dignified spaces for worship. Education and faith are the twin engines of transformation.”
Leaders from the beneficiary institutions echoed the praise. Godfrey Ameto, Deputy Headteacher at Omoro SS, expressed gratitude for the 150 iron sheets received, noting that the school is in dire need of additional classroom blocks to ease congestion.
“Many of our students learn under temporary shelters. This support will go a long way in building permanent structures,” Ameto said.
Similarly, Jackson Okello, Deputy Headteacher at Amugu SS, lauded Obua’s dedication, stating, “We are encouraged by this gesture. It motivates both staff and parents to continue supporting the school’s growth.”
The Yahwe Pentecostal Church leadership, which received the largest share, said the materials will be used to complete roofing on their worship hall, significantly improving services and community outreach.
The event was well attended by District Councilors, Heads of Departments, school administrators, and members of the general public, all bearing witness to a moment of progress for Ajuri County, Alebtong District.
As the district celebrates this achievement, hopes are high for more interventions that bridge infrastructure gaps and foster sustainable development in Alebtong District and Northern Uganda as a whole .
