Maj. Robert Okello Assumes Role as New Regional Security Chief for Lango

LIRA, UGANDA – Major Robert Okello has officially taken over as the new Regional Internal Security Officer (RISO) for the Lango sub-region.

The handover ceremony, held at the RISO offices on Tuesday evening, saw Major Okello assume the critical intelligence and security headship from Captain David Drici. Capt. Drici, who has completed his tour of duty in Lango, has been transferred to the Acholi sub-region, where he will take up a similar role as RISO.

Maj. Okello is a familiar and highly celebrated figure in the region’s security landscape. He previously made history as the inaugural City Internal Security Officer (CISO) for Lira City, a role in which he established a strong foundation for urban security operations. His most recent assignment was as the RISO for the Kampala Metropolitan East region, a position he held with distinction for over three years following a promotion from his Lira post.

His return to Lango has been met with happiness, sparking hope for a renewed energy in upholding professionalism and safeguarding the security image across the district.

Upon assuming his new office, Major Okello outlined his key priorities. He pledged an unwavering commitment to fostering professionalism within the security apparatus, with a clear aim of enhancing the standards of all security operations throughout the sub-region.

“My mission is to strengthen the image and safeguard the reputation of our security forces by ensuring we operate with utmost integrity and accountability,” Maj. Okello stated.

Emphasizing a collaborative approach, the new RISO promised to work closely with local leaders, community members, and other stakeholders. He affirmed that this partnership is essential to creating a peaceful and secure environment conducive to social and economic transformation for the people of Lango.

Maj. Okello is expected to bring the same proactive and effective approach that characterized his successful three-year tenure in the complex security environment of Kampala and his foundational work as Lira’s first CISO. His deployment is seen as a strategic move by national security leadership to reinforce stability in the northern region.
