Eight people are feared dead following a serious road accident that occurred along the Lyantonde–Kampala highway on Monday night.
The crash took place at Katovu Parish in Lyantonde District, in Uganda’s Central Region. Preliminary reports indicate that a bus belonging to Kasaba Bus Company, registration number UAL 492H, was traveling from Rukungiri to Kampala when it collided with a Fuso truck whose registration details were not immediately established.
The collision is reported to have been severe, with multiple casualties recorded at the scene. Emergency responders, with the help of local residents, worked through the night to rescue victims from the wreckage and transport the injured to nearby health facilities.
The exact cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed, and police had not issued an official statement by the time of publication. Investigations are expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The Lyantonde–Kampala highway is a major transport corridor and has previously recorded a number of serious accidents, highlighting ongoing road safety concerns.
