President Museveni’s Overwhelming Win Was Not Because of Anita Among but NRM Projects

Steven Ariong

I would like to reject the ongoing claim by a section of Ugandans that without the efforts of the former Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, President Museveni would not have won the elections. To me, this is just rubbish.

I have seen and read some Ugandans claiming that Hon. Anita Among worked tirelessly traversing the country seeking support for President Museveni. This is wrong. Even if Hon. Among had remained sitting in any of her homes counting her money, President Museveni would still have won the elections.

In fact, I feel the presence of the former Speaker Anita Among during the presidential campaign tour was the reason why President Museveni received many invalid votes around the country.

Ugandans should know that President Museveni emerged as a winner because of the projects he initiated, and Ugandans are getting out of poverty through those projects.

The entire country knows that it is only in President Museveni’s government where a local person deep in the villages can get Shs 1 million. How can you tell such a person, who has not attached any of his property in receiving Shs 1 million, not to vote for President Museveni?

President Museveni’s other projects such as Emyooga, Youth Livelihood, UWEP, and many others did a lot of campaigning for the President without necessarily claiming that his victory was a result of Among’s efforts.

Besides that, President Museveni had his own voluntary task forces who were moving from parish to parish, village to village, and door to door campaigning for the President. So how can Hon. Among, who only staged rallies in towns, claim responsibility for the victory of Mzee Kaguta?

Yes, she might have added something, but her contribution was too small because everywhere she went, people had mixed feelings about her.

In other words, she was trying to popularize herself, maybe for her ill motive, which has already been exposed.
