Former Kampala Lord Mayor and prominent opposition lawyer Erias Lukwago has reportedly been arrested, according to journalist Canary Mugume.
Lukwago, who currently serves as the president of the opposition People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), was allegedly seized from his residence in Wakaliga on Monday morning under circumstances that remain unclear.
Sources close to the opposition leader indicate that he had been scheduled to appear for a television interview but later decided to conduct the interview from his home. Shortly afterward, security operatives reportedly entered the premises by scaling the perimeter fence before moving into the residence and taking him into custody.
As of now, authorities have not released details regarding the operation or confirmed any charges or case connected to his arrest.
Lukwago is also a member of the legal defence team representing detained veteran opposition figure Dr. Kizza Besigye in his ongoing treason-related case, a role that has placed him at the center of Uganda’s political and legal landscape.
The reported arrest has already sparked widespread public interest, with many awaiting an official statement from security agencies to clarify the reasons behind the operation and Lukwago’s current status.
This is a developing story ….
