It has not yet reached the climax of running. The toilets that people used not to talk in due to their smell will be among the most conducive environments for parliamentary staff who have since disappeared following their planned arrest over corruption.
When I saw a letter from Plot 1 clearing the way for the prosecution of officials implicated in a financial accountability crisis at Parliament, I knew these officials would not wear closed shoes but open shoes for the escape because the letter had authorized the Inspectorate of Government and the police to proceed against staff who failed to account for billions channelled through their personal accounts.
These staff failed to provide accountability for huge sums of money that passed through their personal bank accounts between January 2023 and February 2024.
Among the officials who received and withdrew money through their accounts but failed to account for it, according to the documents, include:
- Ranny Ismail, Director, Department of Leader of Government Business – Shs 4.4 billion
- Daniel Adilo, Director, HR – Shs 2.1 billion
- Emmanuel Okwi Emuron, Principal Protocol Officer – Shs 1.1 billion
Surprisingly, ever since this list started circulating in the media, none of these officials has come out to defend themselves. Instead, they have all disappeared and switched off their known contacts.
I would like to urge the investigators to reach out to the villages of these officials. Most of them have built flats that do not match their monthly salaries.
Afande Muhoozi Kainerugaba, thanks so much. Safari bado. No stone should be left unturned.
