In a move that has sent ripples of strategic realignment through the corridors of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chairman of the movement, has once again demonstrated his unparalleled capacity for calculated leadership.
By appointing the Honorable David Kabanda to head the newly established Office of the Chairman,General Muhoozi has not only solidified the administrative structure of the PLU but has also reaffirmed his absolute trust in one of the most resilient, bold, and fearless cadres in the country’s political history known as David kabanda.
This appointment is a testament to the rise of Hon.David Kabanda, a man whose political trajectory has been defined by unwavering grit and an absolute, unshakeable 100% loyalty to General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
As the Head of the Office of the Chairman, Kabanda now stands as the second most powerful figure within the PLU hierarchy, second only to the Chairman himself—with the exception of the respected Vice Chairman, Toyota Nuwagira Kaguta.
To understand the significance of Kabanda’s current position, one must look back at his evolution. Emerging onto the national scene in 2014, Kabanda became a household name for his uncompromising defense of the status quo. During the intense political climate of that era by NRM Youth leaders, he spearheaded the “Pro-Museveni” movement, engaging in a high-stakes and dangerous ideological and political struggle against the highly sophisticated Uganda Poor Youth Movement which was led by then Kampala youth Chairman Buyinza Adam Luzindana.
The Uganda Poor Youth Movement was the biggest, most massive youth movement in uganda since 1986 that had active wings all over Uganda; it was too sophisticated and complex in its operations, boasting key figures such as Hassan Mukibi, Sakur Walusimbi, Isa Katono, Kirekyankuba Richard, Saddam Ismail, Kazibwe Jamir, Vincent Kaggwa, and many others. It was against this formidable force that Kabanda allegedly led a political combat war and emerged victorious working with a dedicated team of operatives funded by the state such as Duncan abugaba, kitata Ibrahim, kavuma Samuel, kiwanuka Moses,Kassim kamugisha, etc.
Within Poor Youth, another group emerged led by Anderson burora and this would specialise into street combat battles and throwing piglets at Parliament.
It is worth noting that many of these former Poor Youth leaders are now working directly under President Museveni, while others remain in exile and others in private sector. Intriguingly, these leaders have remained loyal to former Premier Amama Mbabazi to date, even while working within the structures of President Museveni’s government.
During those years of intense combat, both in the public eye and within the structures of the NRM, Kabanda David and Buyinza Adam Luzindana were locked in prolonged nationwide youth battles that lasted until 2016.
Despite facing temporary setbacks including when Kabanda was fired from the NRM Youth League by Dennis Namara and when Buyinza Adam Luzindana was toppled as Kampala youth boss following instigation by then-IGP Gen.Kale Kayihura—both men were immediately reinstated by President Museveni.
Through it all, Kabanda never wavered, proving himself a loyalist of the highest order.Buyinza Adam Luzindana, who is now principally focused on his private businesses, has kept a low profile over the years and rarely appears in public. He sometimes publishes articles praising General Muhoozi Kainerugaba and President Museveni’s leadership, though he has denied any direct link to them. He is currently leading the Public Opinions journal for Certified Responsible Investments and Development Champions, an organization that honors the best companies, organizations, and individuals globally.
It is believed that he and Kabanda have remained friends despite their long, protracted battles; they freely criticize each other, and Kabanda has even visited the home of Luzindana’s parents in Kayunga District. According to manu ugandans,Kabanda is now the second most powerful and influential person in the PLU, surpassed only by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, with the possible exception of Vice Chairman Toyota Nuwagira Kaguta.
Kabanda’s tenure as the General Secretary of the PLU for the past three years serves as the foundation for his new, elevated role. He transformed the institution from a nascent group into a formidable, nationwide force. The recent transition at the PLU offices in Naguru revealed the true mettle of the organization’s leadership.
While some opportunistic voices engaged in petty posturing and orchestrated campaigns of malice against Kabanda, hoping to see his influence wane, they underestimated the strategic brilliance of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba. Those who chose to distance themselves from Kabanda were exposed as self-seekers.
In a masterstroke of management, General Muhoozi has cleansed the organization of such bad-hearted elements, effectively cementing Kabanda’s authority. The relationship between General Muhoozi and David Kabanda is one defined by mutual trust and shared vision.
Kabanda is more than just an official; he is a shield. His boldness is legendary; he does not shy away from controversy when defending the General. In a political environment often clouded by sycophancy and fickle allegiances, Kabanda’s 100% loyalty stands out as a rare and vital commodity.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has proven himself to be a diplomat, a peacemaker, and a master of strategic management. By placing Kabanda at the top of the PLU Leadership , the General has ensured that the PLU functions with the precision required to achieve the aspirations of President Museveni.
Henceforth, all roads at in PLU lead through David Kabanda. Access to the Chairman now requires the coordination of his most trusted cadre Kabanda.
As the PLU moves forward, the lesson from recent events is clear: envy and division have no place in a movement dedicated to national progress. Figures like Minister Balaam Barugahara continue to set the standard for a jolly, friendly approach to politics.
The message to all members of the PLU is to emulate this spirit of cooperation. Stop the petty battles, abandon the desire to manipulate well-meaning leaders, and unite behind the vision of General Muhoozi Kainerugaba. With the backing of a strategic genius like the General and the administrative prowess of a fearless cadre like Kabanda, the Patriotic League of Uganda is poised to achieve even greater heights in its quest for the sustainable peace and development of our nation.
