Babalanda Challenges Kaliro Residents To Fight Corruption And Build Wealth Through Government Programmes

The Minister for the Presidency and Budiope West Member of Parliament, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, has urged residents of Kaliro District to reject corruption and embrace government wealth creation programmes as a pathway to improving household incomes and transforming communities.

Minister Babalanda made the call while joining the family of the late Ngobi Fred for a Thanksgiving service and commissioning of their newly completed family home. The occasion brought together relatives, friends and community members in celebration of God’s blessings and the family’s achievement.

Delivering her message, the Minister conveyed greetings from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Mama Janet Kataha Museveni, and staff of the Office of the Presidency. She described a home as more than a physical structure, saying it represents love, unity, values and a foundation for raising responsible generations.
She congratulated the Ngobi family for working together to achieve the milestone and encouraged parents to continue nurturing their children with strong moral and spiritual values. Quoting Proverbs 22:6, she reminded families of the importance of guiding children in the right direction from an early age.

Turning to community development, Babalanda warned that corruption remains a major obstacle to progress because it takes away opportunities, delays public services and undermines efforts aimed at improving people’s lives. She called on residents to embrace accountability, hard work and integrity in their daily activities.
The Minister encouraged Kaliro residents to make proper use of government initiatives including the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, Youth Livelihood Programme, Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) and GROW, saying these programmes can create wealth when managed responsibly with a culture of saving and investment.

She also urged households to adopt President Museveni’s 4-Acre Model by engaging in profitable farming activities such as coffee or cocoa growing, fruit production, food crops and livestock keeping. She noted that proper use of available land can help families generate income, improve food security and support children’s education.
Babalanda further encouraged families to establish backyard enterprises such as poultry and piggery projects to create regular income streams. She concluded by urging residents to put their trust in God while working hard, saying faith, discipline and responsible use of government opportunities can help build stronger families and a more prosperous Kaliro District.
