The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has announced a deadline for landlords to settle their rental tax arrears by December 31, 2023. This directive pertains to rental tax arrears that were due by June 30, 2023.
In a public notice issued on October 16, 2023, the URA encouraged landlords with outstanding rental tax payments to pay the principal tax amount by the specified deadline. Doing so would make them eligible for the waiver of interest and penalties, as provided for under section 40D of the Tax Procedure Code Act.
The URA also advised non-compliant landlords to take advantage of the voluntary disclosure provision outlined in Section 66 of the Act. This option would allow them to settle their principal tax liability without incurring additional interest and penalties.
The URA emphasized its commitment to supporting voluntary disclosure initiatives aimed at promoting tax compliance among landlords. Additionally, the tax authority expressed its gratitude to all landlords who participated in the rental income tax engagement event held on September 27, 2023, at the URA headquarters in Nakawa.
