President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has restored the security detail attached to Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs and Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, while directing an investigation into how the personnel were withdrawn without his knowledge.
The President reportedly said he was unaware of the decision to withdraw Namyalo’s security and instructed the relevant authorities to establish who authorised the move and the circumstances under which it was effected.
Namyalo’s security detail, comprising officers from the Police Presidential Guard (PPG), was reportedly withdrawn on September 29, triggering questions about the authority behind the decision.
The development came amid political disagreements between sections of the NRM mobilisation structures and supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), particularly over competing positions on the 2031 succession debate.
The disagreements became public after Namyalo’s mobilisation team in Bugisu endorsed Museveni for another term beyond 2031, attracting criticism from some PLU leaders, including General Secretary Twalla Fadil and Daudi Kabanda, who heads the PLU Chairman’s Office.
Namyalo heads the ONC, the NRM structure that supports Museveni in his capacity as the party’s National Chairman. Through the office, she has coordinated nationwide political mobilisation and empowerment initiatives targeting youth, women and other grassroots groups.
The President’s intervention now places the circumstances surrounding the security withdrawal under scrutiny, with the investigation expected to establish whether the decision followed established procedures and identify those responsible.
The restoration of her security is expected to enable Namyalo to continue executing her official responsibilities as the inquiry proceeds.
