Police in Ibanda are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the demise of a village chairperson from Akeibumba cell in the Ruyoza ward of Bufunda division, within Ibanda municipality. The deceased, 56-year-old William Katabarwa, was discovered dead, with his body found on a hill.
According to SP Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Regional Police Spokesperson, the incident occurred after the deceased left his residence on Sunday at approximately 3 pm. He was carrying a bag of unprocessed coffee, which he intended to sell at a factory in Ibanda.
In a press statement, Kasasira reported that the deceased returned home around 6:30 pm, at which point he informed his wife, Josephine Kembabazi, that he was heading to the Rwamanyonyi trading center.
Subsequently, Kasasira mentioned that the wife of the deceased began to grow concerned as she waited for her husband to return but received no word from him. This led to relatives initiating a search for the deceased, resulting in the discovery of his lifeless body on a hill in the early hours of Monday.
Kasasira also stated that law enforcement swiftly responded to the scene, recovered the deceased’s body, and transported it to the mortuary at Ruhoko Health Centre IV for a pending postmortem examination.
He further added that the police have intensified their investigations into this matter.
