President Yoweri Museveni Kaguta has contributed (condolences) ten (10) million shillings to the family of the late Lira City West Division Mayor, Ogwal Achonga (RIP).
The President of the Republic of Uganda, General Yoweri Museveni Kaguta, offered a condolence contribution of ten (10) million shillings to the bereaved family of the late Mayor Ogwal Achonga through the Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng. This contribution was delivered by Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, who also serves as the Lira City Women MP.
Minister Aceng made the donation before thousands of mourners who had gathered for the send-off of Division Mayor Ogwal. Aceng applauded and commended President Yoweri Museveni for his support to the late mayor’s family and urged voters to choose leaders who consistently stand with them.
During her address to the mourners, Minister Aceng conveyed President Museveni’s message, encouraging the widow of Michael Ogwal Achonga to unite all the family members of the late Mayor Ogwal Achonga.
Meanwhile, UPC party president, Hon. Akena Jimmy Michael, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Lira City East Division, confirmed before the mourners that the recent by-election in Oyam North County was successful due to the strategies laid out by the late Mayor Lira City West Division, Michael Ogwal Achonga (RIP). He praised Achonga as a courageous leader who helped the UPC party gain ground in most parts of Lango sub-region as a whole.
MP Obong Vincent Shedrick of Lira City West Division commended the late Ogwal Achonga as a political force. He added that when he entered politics, it was Achonga who inspired him and offered guidance on his political journey.
The majority of the thousands of mourners who attended the burial expressed their appreciation to President Museveni for his ten million shilling donation to the bereaved family.
In his condolence message, Minister for Local Government, Hon. Raphael Magenyi, remembered Ogwal Achonga as a leader who worked tirelessly on the development of the tarmacked Lira Bus Park. He noted that Ogwal’s genuine contributions left a lasting impact.
Mr. Lawrence Emmy Egole, representing the Bank of Uganda through RCC Lira City, also made a substantial donation to the family of the late Mayor Ogwal Achonga. The contribution was presented by Michael Ego, the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, on Friday in Lira City during the closure of a two-day town hall meeting held at Margarita Palace Hotel in Lira City.
Michael Ogwal Achonga was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Ngetta, Lira City East Division, on Friday, October 20, 2023.
