The Minister of Health, also serving as the Lira City Woman MP, has handed over ten million Ugandan shillings (UGX 10,000,000) that was given to her by the President of Uganda, Gen. Yoweri Museveni Kaguta, to deliver to the bereaved family of the late Akoli Betty Rose Nam (RIP).
Honorable Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, while presenting the money during the burial of the late Betty Nam Akoli on Saturday, commended His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda for his kindness towards the bereaved family of the deceased former LCV (Local Council V) chairperson, Betty Akoli Nam.
“I have brought a message of condolence from His Excellency, the President. His Excellency the President has provided me with ten million shillings as a condolence contribution to be given to the bereaved family,” said Minister Aceng.
Honorable Minister Aceng added that President Museveni regretted the untimely death of Betty Akoli Nam and had wished to have contributed towards her care if her passing had not been so sudden.
Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero praised the late Betty Akoli Nam for being a hardworking and courageous woman who will be deeply missed by many in the Lango sub-region and the entire country.
Honorable Cecilia Atim Ogwal, the Dokolo Woman MP, expressed her appreciation to Dr. Richard Nam for standing by the late Betty Akoli at all times. She urged all partners to follow in Dr. Nam’s footsteps.
Akoli died mysteriously at her home in Adyel Junior Quarters in Lira City after a brief illness. She contested under the NRM (National Resistance Movement) party ticket in 2016 and secured victory with 17,365 votes, beating eight other candidates in the election. In the 2021 general elections, she was defeated by the current Kole LC V, Andrew Awany, an NRM flag bearer, who garnered 14,423 votes compared to Akoli Betty Nam’s 1,707 votes while contesting as an independent candidate.
She was laid to rest at her ancestral home in Alito Town Council, Kole District, on Saturday.
