Mountain Division Commander, Major General Dick Olum, called on Local Defence Personnel (LDPs) to be well-prepared for their duties within the Mountain Division. He made this demand while presiding over the graduation of 461 LDPs who had just completed refresher training at Hima Training School in Kasese District.
In his address, Maj Gen Olum emphasized the importance of discipline for career advancement within the Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces (UPDF). He sternly warned against desertion, highlighting the gravity of such actions.
Maj Gen Olum also addressed other critical issues, advising the LDPs to avoid reckless lifestyles and take precautions against HIV/AIDS. He specifically urged female trainees to prevent early pregnancies.
Col Saul Nabimanya, the 222 Brigade Commander, noted that the newly graduated trainees had received comprehensive training in line with the operational requirements of the Mountain Division’s area of responsibility. He confirmed their readiness for deployment in the 222 Mountain Brigade area of operation.
The event was attended by Brig Gen Steven Mugerwa, as well as senior and junior officers from the Mountain Division.
