Concerns are emerging around the Buyala landfill project after it was reported that a landowner signed for UGX 20 billion but allegedly received a significantly smaller amount.
The land, located along the Kampala–Mityana Road, is part of the site being developed by the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) as a replacement for the old Kiteezi landfill.
The entire project is budgeted at UGX 45 billion, including land acquisition and development.
According to an anonymous whistleblower, it has come to our notice that one of the landowners was allegedly involved in a quiet arrangement where the official payment figure recorded was UGX 20 billion, yet the actual amount paid out was far less.
This development raises fresh questions about accountability and the possible misuse of public funds under the guise of legitimate land compensation. We intend to contact KCCA and the relevant ministry for comment.
As we are still gathering more information, we shall reveal the full details of this transaction, including the exact amount the landowner received and others
This is a developing story…
