Residents of Akoboi Sub-County, Ngariam County in Katakwi District have shown their willingness to embrace the formation of a weekly cattle market in the area.
The cattle market, called the “Akoboi-Omodo Cattle Market,” has sparked positive discussions among the public. Mr. Opus Charles, Emmanuel Otoke, Christine Apio, and other stakeholders have applauded the initiative, stating that its timing is ideal.
The interim committee of the market, headed by Benjamin Okiror, has allowed the public to sell their goods without being taxed.
The market, which occupies 12 acres of land, borders Getom Sub-County to the north. It began temporarily on December 9, 2024, with an impressive turnout.
Today, December 16, 2024, marked the second week of its temporary operation, with district leaders actively purchasing several food items.
Mr. Moses Onyu, the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) for Katakwi District, today expressed his appreciation for the formation of the market and urged the public to support the sub-county by conducting business there.
Onyu, who pledged full support for the market, called on the public to turn out in large numbers for the official launch scheduled for January 20, 2025.
Samuel Okiror urged the leadership to help drum up support for the public to own the market.
Jorem Obukui, the LC3 of Akoboi Sub-County, called on the business community and the general public to take advantage of this opportunity to purchase Christmas and New Year’s items for their families.
Obukui said this would ease transportation for individuals traveling long distances.
