KISORO, UGANDA –Tensions are mounting in Bukimbiri County as residents express growing frustration with the incumbent Member of Parliament, Eddie Kwizera WA Gahungu, over unfulfilled promises made during the 2022 by-elections.
The discontent surfaced during National Resistance Movement (NRM) party campaigns held yesterday in Kirundo Sub-county. Rallies took place at Karehe Playground, Rutaka Primary School, and Kasharara Trading Centre, where several residents voiced their concerns.
At all campaign venues, particularly in Kisharu, Rutaka, and Kibugu parishes, local residents took the opportunity to demand that Kwizera fulfill key promises he made as part of his election manifesto. The main grievances include:
- The establishment of a ferry service at Lake Mutanda.
- Upgrading and murraming of the deteriorating Kasharara–Kibugu Road.
- Improvement of health facilities across the sub-county.
Asgario Turyagyenda, a prospective candidate for the Bukimbiri MP seat, also weighed in on the matter, accusing Kwizera of neglecting grassroots issues and failing to drive meaningful development in the area.

In response, MP Kwizera shifted the blame to the local leadership of Kirundo Sub-county, claiming they had failed to maintain roads he personally funded for grading. He called on voters to support “capable and responsible leaders” who could ensure accountability at the local government level.
The tension between the MP and residents highlights the growing dissatisfaction with leadership in Bukimbiri County, and questions remain about whether Kwizera can meet the expectations of his constituents in the lead-up to the next election.
