The people of Mbarara City have emphatically endorsed Hon. Rita Atukwasa Bwahika, the current Woman MP, as their candidate for the 2026 General Elections.
They have recommended to the membership of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and its organs that Hon. Rita Atukwasa continues to lead Mbarara City in 2026 as they work to eliminate bottlenecks to transformation.
The youths and business community gathered yesterday in Biharwe at the Biharwe Playground to participate in the “Mayor’s Tournament,” organized by the people of Biharwe in Mbarara City. The tournament attracted a large crowd, including aspiring Mbarara City mayors, councilors, and members of the business community.
In a surprise move, Hon. Rita Bwahika, Mbarara City’s Woman MP, was welcomed with a triumphant entry by the organizers and the large crowd, an action that symbolized unity, love, and appreciation for the good work she has done for Mbarara City.
The captain of the winning team for the tournament told the gathering that Hon. Rita is committed to continuing her empowerment initiatives for the youth and economically disadvantaged women. He further noted that Hon. Rita initiated women’s saving groups at the village level in all villages across Mbarara City, a move that is transforming families.
“She is an eloquent leader who has ensured that matters concerning Mbarara City are always raised on the floor of Parliament. Her charisma has stimulated effective representation both nationally and internationally. She deserves another term!” an elder applauded.
In her remarks, Hon. Rita Bwahika thanked the people of Mbarara City for their foresightedness. “You people have demonstrated that my leadership is one that embraces everybody—special interest groups, youth, women, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and everyone else.”
The majority decision in Mbarara City remains to have Hon. Rita Bwahika as the sole candidate for the 2026/31 term. More developments are yet to be unveiled.
