Presidential candidate Munyagwa Mubarak says his father, Hajj Serunga Buruhan, freely chose to support President Museveni during the Kitagwenda campaign event.
Presidential candidate and leader of the Common Man’s Party, Munyagwa Mubarak, has said that his father, Hajj Serunga Buruhan, was not forced or influenced to support President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during the recent campaign rally in Kitagwenda District.
Hajj Buruhan’s appearance on the podium—where he encouraged voters to back President Museveni—sparked national attention. However, Munyagwa has emphasised that his father acted on his own long-held beliefs.
Speaking in an interview, Munyagwa explained that his father has openly supported President Museveni and the NRM for decades.
“My father made his choice freely. He has supported Museveni for many years, and that is his personal conviction,” Munyagwa said.
He added that political diversity within families is normal and should be respected, noting that he has always known his father to be an admirer of Museveni’s early political journey, dating back to the days of UPM.
Munyagwa also revealed that his brother, Eng. Ssebaggala Isaac, shares their father’s political views, while their mother supports him in his presidential bid. He stressed that this dynamic has never caused tension at home.
The presidential candidate said he values the freedom of political opinion and believes every Ugandan—including members of his own family—should feel free to support the candidate they believe in.
