KAMPALA — Tension has gripped the National Unity Platform (NUP) following reports that security agencies are drawing up a list of senior party leaders and supporters to be arrested over their alleged involvement in a military-style parade held at Kavule.

According to information reportedly circulating, the list includes NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, his wife Barbie Kyagulanyi, Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, and party lawyer George Musisi. Several journalists who covered the parade but did not report the incident to police are also said to be under investigation.

Sources indicate that a total of 23 individuals are being targeted, with eight already in custody. Among those arrested are Saudah Madaada, Waiswa Mufumbiro, and Bobi Giant, all accused of participating in what authorities described as an unauthorized display of a “foot soldiers” parade.

The incident reportedly unsettled top officials in State House. Days after Bobi Wine inspected the parade, First Son and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is said to have instructed the Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba, to arrest him. However, the directive was reportedly halted after consultations with President Museveni and senior military commanders at Makindye Barracks, who opposed immediate action.

Party insiders fear that the move could be used to weaken NUP’s leadership ahead of the 2026 elections. For now, Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi is not on the list, as he was reportedly absent during the Kavule event.

The unfolding developments have heightened unease within the opposition party, with supporters calling for transparency and due process. As the situation evolves, questions remain on whether the arrests will go ahead and how far the crackdown will extend.
