Zahara Luyirika has emerged victorious at the Civil Division of the High Court in Twed Towers, where Acting Judge Simon Peter Kinobe ruled in her favour.

The case had been filed by three Makindye West voters, including NUP member Allan Ssewanyana, who had also sought to become the party’s flag bearer for the same constituency. The applicants challenged the circumstances under which Zahara—who had initially applied for the Kampala Woman MP slot—ended up being declared the NUP flag bearer for Makindye West.

Sources reveal that Hon. Zahara had already moved ahead of her rivals by leveraging her strong contacts within the Electoral Commission. She reportedly managed to get nominated as early as 10 a.m., two hours before Justice Kinobe delivered his ruling.

During the court session, the judge questioned why the applicants had not acted promptly to stop the nomination. Although their lawyers tried to explain, the judge appeared unconvinced and eventually dismissed the application.

The ruling effectively clears Zahara Luyirika to contest for the Makindye West Parliamentary Seat, a move that further strengthens her political standing ahead of the 2026 elections.
