Abed Bwanika, a long time figure in Ugandan politics, has recently made headlines for his adept manipulation of political platforms, particularly within the National Unity Platform (NUP).

In a recent post on X, Kakwenza Rukirabashaija highlighted Abed Bwanika’s strategic utilization of the National Unity Platform (NUP) to propel his political ambitions. Bwanika, having previously vied for the presidency unsuccessfully, found new momentum with the emergence of Bobi Wine in the political arena.

Bwanika’s journey took an unexpected turn after his unsuccessful bid for the presidency in earlier elections. However, with the emergence of Bobi Wine onto the political scene, Bwanika swiftly seized the opportunity presented by the momentum surrounding Wine’s movement. This sudden shift in allegiance saw Bwanika abandoning his own political party, which had hitherto struggled to secure parliamentary representation.

Once ensconced within the NUP umbrella, Bwanika saw his newfound parliamentary seat as a means to an end—an opportunity to breathe life into his ailing political party. However, rather than relying solely on his affiliation with NUP, Bwanika began strategizing on how to leverage his position to resurrect his dormant political entity. Advised by political confidants, Bwanika embarked on a campaign to discredit the very party that had facilitated his political resurgence, all with the aim of positioning himself to contest under his own party banner come the 2026 elections. Success in this endeavor would not only secure his continued presence in parliament but also ensure representation for his own political faction.

Central to Bwanika’s motivations is the allure of government funding, a perk enjoyed by any political party with parliamentary representation. This financial incentive serves as a driving force behind Bwanika’s calculated maneuvers within the political landscape, underscoring his ambition and determination to secure resources for his political endeavors.
