Abim, Uganda – Amid the current political landscape in Abim district, a youthful journalist attached to Karibu FM in Abim Town has expressed interest in joining the Abim LCV race in the upcoming 2026 elections.
Ogwang John Mike, in his late 30s, told The Ankole Times newspaper that he intends to contest to bring hope to Labwor leadership at the local government level because he believes he is the only bridge of peace in Abim district.
He further added that recently, some politicians failed to coordinate with various ministries, resulting in poor service delivery to the Wanahinci.
If elected into office, he plans to improve the road network from Morulem to Opoopngo via the Nyakwae area, as well as reduce the level of land disputes and land grabbing.
“Abim district has been lagging behind due to poor service delivery and incompetent leaders at the district and sub-county levels. It is now the right time to vote for capable leaders,” narrated Ogwang.
Abim district faces significant challenges in terms of service delivery in almost half of its sub-counties. According to Mr. Ogwang, he will prioritize fighting corruption and improving the welfare of the youth, widows, elderly, and orphans within the first 200 days if elected into office.
In a related development, he advocates for the construction of the Ethur cultural palace by the next council.
Ogwang said he will contest as an independent candidate or under the NRM ticket, depending on the consultations he is currently undertaking.
Ogwang John Mike hails from Abuk Town Council, Abim district.
