Abim, Uganda – As the Christmas season approaches, Nelson Otim Olwit, a prominent political figure and LCV aspirant in Abim District, has urged residents of Karamoja and Uganda to embrace peace, love, and responsible living during the festive period.
Speaking to reporters in Abim Town Council on December 22, 2024, Mr. Olwit, commonly known as “Abaa,” expressed concern over the rise in crime, including theft, domestic violence, reckless driving, and family separations, that often mar the festive season.
He emphasized the need for harmonious celebrations, prioritizing family unity and responsible financial management. “Let this Christmas be one of peace, sharing, and love. Let us avoid reckless actions that lead to unnecessary suffering,” he urged.
Christmas, celebrated annually on December 25th, commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ. Olwit’s message resonates with the core values of the season: hope, joy, and redemption, aligning with the teachings of goodwill, unity, and compassion.
However, the festive season in Uganda often witnesses a surge in crime due to increased economic activity and social pressures. Common offenses include theft, domestic violence, and drunk driving.
Olwit emphasized the importance of personal responsibility and vigilance. “Families must remain united and prioritize safety. Let us protect our children, avoid unnecessary conflicts, and ensure that Christmas is a time of joy for everyone,” he said.
Concluding his address, Olwit offered a powerful prayer: “May God grant us in Abim District a Christmas free of crime and filled with love and peace. For God and My Country.”
His call to action challenges all Ugandans to foster a culture of compassion and responsibility, ensuring the true spirit of Christmas prevails across the nation.
