Kenyans joined forces to raise Ksh320,000 within 24 hours to assist a struggling single mother facing Ksh33,500 in rent arrears. Philanthropist Ndungu Nyoro initiated the crowdfunding effort through a Facebook post on December 15, leading to an outpouring of support.

The 34-year-old woman had relocated from Nairobi to a rural area to reduce living expenses, but the move triggered depression and suicidal thoughts. Previously a stable provider for her family, she faced a series of hardships, including a cancer diagnosis in 2021 that depleted her family’s resources. Despite overcoming the disease, societal disapproval for having a child outside of wedlock added to her challenges, leading to estrangement from her church and financial struggles.

After receiving the substantial contributions, the woman expressed gratitude and a renewed determination to face life’s difficulties, emphasizing her commitment to providing a better future for her son.
