Meru Governor Kawira Mwanganza has reached out to the Senate, alleging that Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, along with other influential politicians in the county, has created problems for her deputy, Isaac Mutuma.
In a letter addressed to the Senate, Mwangaza claimed that the CS, in collaboration with local politicians, had put Mutuma in a difficult position, leading him to turn against her.
She revealed that her deputy even appeared to be supporting impeachment efforts against her, urging the Senate to mediate in their dispute.
Mwangaza also mentioned Senator Murungi Kathuri and all Members of Parliament as being involved in the impeachment plans.
“They have been conducting press conferences and expressing their intent to impeach me for incompetence,” she stated.
“My deputy Governor has taken the step of approaching County Assembly members who openly support my government, trying to persuade them to back his removal campaign instead,” she explained.
The governor, who was elected as an independent candidate, offered to provide evidence to substantiate her claims before the Senate.
Mwangaza informed the Senators that another impeachment motion was in the works, and she expressed concerns about receiving a fair hearing in the process.
She alleged that both the majority and minority leadership in the County Assembly opposed her, despite her numerous attempts to resolve their differences.
“Since then, County Assembly members who openly support my government have faced intimidation from either the Minority Whip or the Majority Whip, to the extent that some members have been removed from the sectoral committees of the house.”
Mwangaza’s deputy and the individuals implicated in her claims have not yet issued any responses to the allegations.
