The Essex Police of the United Kingdom has published a report regarding their examination of a Kenyan plane that was intercepted by a military jet while on its way to London Heathrow.
According to information released publicly, the investigations did not uncover any significant security issues.
The aircraft was intercepted mid-flight and rerouted to London Stansted Airport for a thorough security evaluation. The plane had taken off from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on a Thursday just after 9 a.m.
The UK police conducted their investigations by speaking with the cabin crew and passengers to assess any potential threats onboard.
In a statement, the police mentioned, “Officers have confirmed that there is nothing of concern on board a flight diverted to Stansted Airport. Officers conducted inquiries and concluded that there was nothing of concern on board.”
The aircraft has been returned to the airport, which continued its normal operations.
Some major UK publications had previously reported concerns of a potential bomb threat due to the presence of security experts at Stansted Airport awaiting the plane’s arrival. However, the police did not disclose the specific threat that prompted the investigation.
The company operating the flight stated that they engaged with Kenyan authorities after receiving a security alert from UK security agencies at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Additionally, the Kenyan airline affirmed that no passengers were injured and ensured the safety of all passengers during the flight.
The company also refuted reports suggesting that the plane had taken an unusual route before entering UK airspace. False reports alleged that the plane had made stops in Russia and Tunisia before arriving in London.
