Alebtong Stakeholders Unanimously Endorse Dr. Lakica Mercy for 2026 Woman MP

Over 100 stakeholders from Alebtong district gathered at Jerusalem Heritage School Hall in Lira City West on Saturday afternoon for a consultative meeting, unanimously agreeing to support Dr. Mercy Lakica as Alebtong district Women MP in the 2026 general election. The meeting, which lasted over three hours, saw stakeholders resolve to back Dr. Lakica regardless of party affiliation.

Aceng Otim, popularly known as the “Iron Lady” of Amugu Town Council, assured the people of Alebtong that Dr. Mercy is the ideal candidate to elect when the time comes. Dr. Mercy is a daughter of Odepo and hails from the Arak Okwero Ocobo clan.




Betty Okullu Odyek from Amononeno Parish in Abako sub-county, Alebtong district, advised Dr. Mercy to incorporate people’s ideas as she enters politics, emphasizing that leadership is chosen by God.




The consultative meeting included stakeholders from sub-counties such as Ageta, Abako, Awei, Adwir, Omoro, Amugo sub-county, and Amugu Town Council.




Ogwal Jackson from Atelela Parish, Ageta sub-county, expressed confidence that Dr. Mercy will successfully join the 12th Parliament.

Aceng Evaline, another participant, emphasized that no one should intimidate Dr. Mercy.

Ekol Geoffrey from Omoro sub-county encouraged Dr. Lakica Mercy to remain resilient as she continues to seek support for her 2026 candidacy bid.




Johnson Denis Okello, former LCV chairman of Alebtong district, confirmed Dr. Lakica’s potential success in the 2026 general elections, urging her to visit home frequently and maintain her resolve, as she is the most suitable candidate for the position of Woman MP for Alebtong district.
