Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, expressed her joy and eagerness to resume her official duties on Monday after giving birth to twin boys on October 23, 2023. She returned to a warm reception from her colleagues and staff at Parliament, where she was presented with a flower upon her arrival.
During her maternity leave, Speaker Among, who was dressed in blue and visibly excited, shared her gratitude on X, formerly known as Twitter, for the warm welcome she received from her fellow parliamentarians and staff.
Anita Among, who is married to Moses Magogo, the Budiope East MP and the president of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations, attributed her joy to the “lovely” twins that God had blessed them with during her time away from Parliament.
Addressing the MPs and staff who welcomed her back with flushed cheeks of excitement, she extended her sincere thanks for their prayers and outpouring of love. They celebrated her safe delivery of the twins, thanking God for His blessings.
She also expressed her appreciation for her deputy, Thomas Tayebwa, whom she referred to as her good brother, for capably and firmly holding the fort during her absence. In her parting words, she offered a heartfelt prayer, hoping that the Almighty God would continue to bestow abundant blessings upon them all.
Anita Among’s journey to motherhood was publicly revealed during her meeting with Pope Francis in Rome in August 2023. During the meeting, she asked Pope Francis to bless her unborn baby, and he kindly blessed her with a sign of the cross.
The Speaker married Moses Magogo in a private ceremony in Kampala in August of the previous year. Prior to the wedding, she officially introduced her fiancé in a closed-door ceremony in Bukedea district, making her personal life a matter of public interest and curiosity.
