Several health in-charges gathered at the Otuke Town Council in Otuke District for a meeting held in the Education Board Room on Monday.

According to the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC) of Otuke District, Mr. Isaac Opio Opeo, all in-charges of government health centers in the district were urged to work diligently and adhere to their professional code of conduct in line with the Ministry of Health policies.

Mr. Opio challenged all health center in-charges to uphold their professional ethics and integrity.

A key challenge facing health centers is absenteeism by some health staff. Mr. Opio noted that issues such as drug shortages had previously affected several health centers in Otuke District, but these problems have largely been addressed under the leadership of His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

He added that the State House Anti-Corruption Unit has been actively combating the theft of government drugs and warned that anyone implicated in such offenses would be arrested and prosecuted.

One health in-charge, who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity, mentioned that some health centers in Otuke District are severely understaffed.

“I want to reiterate the importance of addressing absenteeism and absenteeism among medical personnel, especially nurses and other support staff,” warned Mr. Opio.

The meeting included all in-charges of the 14 government Health Center IIIs and three private health centers. Attendees included Otuke ARDC Isaac Opio, CAO Joseph Lomongin, Deputy CAO James, DHO Opio Quinto, PHRO, Dr. Olum of Orum HC IV, the health inspector, SAS, and all health in-charges, among others.
