Bebe Cool advocated for government support for the proposed music battle, highlighting its potential social and economic impact, including job creation. Meanwhile, Jose Chameleone has not publicly responded to the idea, having previously expressed reservations about such battles in 2021.

Ugandan musician Bebe Cool recently responded to Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa’s tweet suggesting a musical battle between him and fellow singer Jose Chameleone. Bebe Cool, in his response, acknowledged the contributions of legendary local artists to the Ugandan music scene and delved into the issue of copyright. He also highlighted the importance of government support for the music industry.

Bebe Cool stated that a music battle between himself and Chameleone would be a significant event that could demonstrate government support for talent in Uganda. He compared Uganda’s music industry to those in Nigeria, South Africa, and Tanzania, where governments have directly supported musicians, leading to their global success.

He explained that financial constraints have hindered him and Chameleone from fully investing in their careers and grooming young artists. Bebe Cool believes that a music battle between them could generate excitement and attract tourists, benefiting Uganda’s economy.

Bebe Cool also emphasized the financial challenges faced by young artists, stating that it takes approximately 200 million Ugandan Shillings annually to promote an upcoming artist. He argued that by supporting established artists like himself and Chameleone, the government indirectly supports younger artists.
