Opposition leader Bobi Wine expressed frustration over the continued denial of bail to political prisoners by the military court in Makindye in a scathing post on social media. According to Bobi Wine, the court has once again refused bail to individuals held in Kitalya and other prisons for over three years, despite the presentation of substantive sureties, including Members of Parliament.
Bobi Wine condemned the court’s justification for denying bail, stating that the court claims the prisoners, some of whom were forcibly taken from their homes, lack fixed places of residence. He portrayed the situation as a consequence of opposing President Museveni and his military regime, asserting that these individuals have paid a heavy price for their dissent.
Despite the pain and frustration, Bobi Wine urged his supporters never to give up the fight for freedom, emphasizing that oppression will not prevail indefinitely and expressing hope that light will eventually shine on Uganda.
Daniel Kawuma, a leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP) Diaspora Team in the USA and a human rights activist, echoed Bobi Wine’s sentiments. Kawuma criticized the regime’s use of military courts to intimidate opponents, alleging that the government lacks legitimate cases against the detained civilians and is merely using them as a warning to deter others from joining the opposition movement.
Kawuma pledged continued resistance against the Museveni dictatorship and vowed to pursue justice through all available means, ensuring accountability for the regime’s actions. He expressed solidarity with the families of the political prisoners, acknowledging the hardships they endure as their loved ones languish in military detention for nearly four years.
Both Bobi Wine and Kawuma articulated their belief that justice will ultimately prevail, despite the regime’s attempts to suppress dissent and silence opposition voices. They called for unwavering determination in the face of adversity and urged supporters to remain resilient in the struggle for democracy and human rights in Uganda.
