Ugandan musician and politician, William Otim, popularly known as Bosmic Otim or Lucky Bosmic Otim, recently made headlines as he returned to Uganda after reportedly facing mistreatment by unknown individuals. President Yoweri Museveni, affectionately referring to Otim as his “Muzzukulu,” expressed concern over the circumstances that led to Otim’s departure from the country.

Otim’s journey back to Uganda was marred by allegations of mistreatment and false accusations, prompting him to seek refuge in Nairobi and South Sudan. According to President Museveni, Otim was unjustly labeled as a rebel, a claim that Otim vehemently denies. As Otim reunites with his homeland and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, President Museveni has vowed to investigate the incidents surrounding Otim’s ordeal and hold the responsible parties accountable.

Born and raised in Gulu, Bosmic Otim gained prominence as a musician during the tumultuous period of conflict between the National Resistance Movement and the Lord’s Resistance Army in 2006. His music served as a beacon of peace, earning him recognition and accolades, including the prestigious Pearl of Africa Music Awards in 2007.

Despite his musical success, Otim faced setbacks in his academic pursuits, notably failing his Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education exams in 2019. This setback posed a challenge to his political ambitions, particularly his desire to contest in the 2021 elections. Otim’s involvement in politics took a significant turn when he assumed the role of People Power coordinator and chairperson, aligning himself with the opposition movement.

However, Otim’s political journey took an unexpected twist when he crossed over to the NRM party after engaging in discussions with President Museveni. The decision to switch allegiances raised eyebrows within political circles and garnered mixed reactions from the public.
