Busiki FC emerged triumphant in the 2023 MTN Busoga Masaza Cup, securing their maiden title with an unbeaten record after a 1-0 victory over Butembe FC in the final. The decisive goal came in the second half of the match, witnessed by a large crowd at Kakindu Stadium on Saturday.
The prestigious final was honored by the presence of the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Gabula Nadiope IV. Accompanied by dignitaries including Busoga Kingdom’s Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Muvawala, the Kyabazinga was warmly welcomed by enthusiastic fans.
The first half saw both teams fiercely contesting with missed scoring opportunities on both sides. During the halftime break, the Kyabazinga presented accolades to the tournament’s sponsors – MTN Uganda, Nile Breweries Ltd, Haojue Motorcycles Uganda Ltd, and Baba TV, recognizing their contributions.
In the second half, Ismail Ndifuna scored a brilliant goal for Busiki FC, securing the lead against Butembe FC. Despite Butembe FC’s Tony Tilutuka having several scoring chances, Busiki’s goalkeeper Andrew Aboket made crucial saves, ensuring Busiki held onto the lead until the final whistle.
The Kyabazinga awarded Busiki FC with the championship trophy, gold medals, and a cash prize of 12,000,000/-. Butembe FC secured the second position with silver medals and 8,000,000/-, while Kigulu, finishing third, received bronze and 6,000,000/-. Bugabula FC, in the fourth position, was awarded 4,000,000/-.
Sharif Amuke of Bukono FC, the tournament’s top scorer with four goals, was presented with a brand new motorcycle from Haojue Motorcycles Uganda.
Expressing her joy, Namutumba district woman Member of Parliament Mariam Naigaga commended Busiki for their unbeaten performance throughout the tournament.
The final game attracted a distinguished audience, including hereditary chiefs from Busoga, Busoga Lukiiko Speaker George Mutyabule, Busoga Kingdom Ministers, and representatives from sponsoring companies.
