To safeguard animals in proximity to Murchison National Park in Buliisa, the veterinary department is set to vaccinate over 5000 cows in the district. Dr. Rashid Mubiru, the Buliisa district Veterinary officer, revealed this initiative during an interview with Vision Group’s Kabalega FM.
This vaccination effort is an additional measure to the previous one, aimed at boosting the immunity of animals near the park against foot and mouth disease (FMD) during the dry season. Dr. Mubiru emphasized that the upcoming vaccination exercise would be conducted free of charge and is scheduled to take place either later this month or early next month.
The targeted areas for the vaccination campaign include the parishes of Bugana, Kigoya, and Kaborwa. Dr. Mubiru urged farmers to be vigilant and regularly monitor their animals, enabling them to quickly identify any signs of disease outbreak in the area.
Last year, the Buliisa Veterinary Department conducted a successful vaccination campaign, inoculating over 15,000 cattle against Foot and Mouth Disease following an outbreak in the district. The proactive measures aim to mitigate the impact of diseases on the local livestock, ensuring the health and well-being of the cattle population.
